Dogs… Make sure to obtain a license for all dogs over the age of six months. Your dog will be issued a tag to wear with a number on it that will help return your pet to you if it strays from home. You could be subject to fines if your dog does not have a valid/current dog tag. Licenses must be renewed annually - the Town Hall will send out renewal slips each January. Call the CRD Animal Control @ 250-478-0624 for complaints or problems. |

Utilities…. Utilities include water, sewer and garbage. Meters are read quarterly and based on your level of consumption; water and sewer are calculated at $6.09/1,000 gallons and $7.00/1,000 gallons respectively. You should note that there is a 5% penalty on late payments. Please watch for watering restriction announcements in the summer, or contact CRD Water at 250-474-9684 for more information. |

Garbage…. Garbage Collection is contracted to Alpine Disposal . Pick up is weekly at curbside. One can per week, not to exceed 100 litres in volume and weighing 25 kilograms. For schedule information call Alpine at 250-474-5145, or call the Sidney Town Hall at 250-656-1184. The fee for garbage collection is $25.00 for three months and is billed on your quarterly Metered Utility Statement. If you require stickers for additional cans/bags, they can be obtained for $3.50 + GST at the Sidney Town Hall or Thrifty Foods. |

Recycling / Blue Box…. Collection is done by the CRD and is picked up biweekly (every second Monday). Call the CRD Hotline at 250-360-3030 or click this Recycle link for schedule information. There is no fee for blue box collection. The Blue Boxes & Bags can be purchased at Sidney Home Hardware, or Peninsula Landscape Supplies. |

Composting… Once a month, Alpine Disposal will pick up three compostable yard and/or garden waste clear bags or cans with no lids at curbside. See Schedule Information for your pickup days, or call Alpine at 250-474-5145 or the Sidney Town Hall at 250-656-1184. The fee for composting pickup is included in the garbage collection fees. If you require stickers for additional cans/bags, they can be obtained for $2.50+ GST at the Town Hall or Thrifty Foods. PLEASE NOTE: effective April 1, 2006 the Capital Regional District (CRD) will be banning yard and garden waste from the Hartland Landfill. We therefore ask that you please ensure that such material is not deposited in with the regular household garbage that is collected once a week. The Town’s garbage collection contractor is not required, or expected, to collect household garbage containing material prohibited from the Hartland Landfill. |

Home Winter Preparedness… Please make sure that your house is ready for the wet and cold winter months- check and clean any downspouts, gutters and perimeter house and garden drains.

Snow… Snow removal on the sidewalk in front of your dwelling is the responsibility of the resident.

Public Works… Call us first for any sewer, storm or domestic water problems. The Town will not pay contractor’s bills if the problem was the Town’s and we are not called until after the fact.

Driver Services… Our Driver Services office located at 9884 Third St (behind Town Hall) is open to help you with driver license services, Autoplan insurance, BC identification cards and traffic fines. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday – 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Phone: 250-656-0614. |

Town Council… Sidney Town Council meets every second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall in the Council Chambers, except if posted otherwise. Agendas and minutes are available at the Administration Office.

Community Involvement… If you are interested in volunteering your time to the community, look for the Town’s advertisement, in October of each year, inviting residents and local business owners to sit on one of the Town’s Advisory Committees.

Street Parking… Parking on the street is permitted up to a maximum twenty-four hour period, unless otherwise posted. Vehicles parked on the street cannot exceed twenty feet in length in the downtown core.

Public Parking… Public parking lots are located at: Sidney Ave. and Fourth St. (3-hour parking); off Third St. between Sidney Ave. and Beacon Ave. (3-hour parking) and Seventh St. between Beacon and Bevan Ave. (3-hour parking). Parking permits are available for purchase at the Town Hall. |
