Recycling

Curbside recycling service within the Town of Sidney is provided by the Capital Regional District.

The CRD contracts GFL Environmental to provide collection services. For service issues, GFL Environmental can be contacted at 236-470-0186 or blueboxvictoria@gflenv.com.

For general inquiries regarding the Blue Box Recycling Program, please reach out to the CRD Infoline at 250-360-3030 or infoline@crd.bc.ca.

Collection Schedule

Recycling collection takes place biweekly on Mondays. Items must be placed at the curbside by 7:30 am.

Items Accepted

To avoid recycling box contamination and to see what is and isn’t accepted in your blue box, follow the guidelines outlined in the CRD’s Recycling Prep Sheet.

To find information on how to recycle items that are not accepted in the curbside program, try the CRD’s What Goes Where search tool.

For additional information, queries, or complaints, please visit the CRD’s Curbside Recycling page or contact the CRD Infoline by phone 250-360-3030 or by email at infoline@crd.bc.ca.

The CRD recycling program provides residents with one blue box and two blue bags per home. If you are a new resident or require a replacement blue box or blue bag, please contact the collection contractor GFL Environmental at 236-470-0186 or blueboxvictoria@gflenv.com. Sidney residents can also pick up boxes and bags at Town Hall during regular business hours.

If additional recycling receptacles are used, they must be similar in size to the blue box provided by the program (47L and 48 x 40 x 31cm). Receptacles placed out, in addition to a CRD blue box or bag, do not need have to be blue or contain the recycling symbol. Cardboard boxes, paper bags and plastic bags are not suitable receptacles for mixed containers or glass.

Additional guidelines and information can be found on the CRD Curbside Recycling page.

As the curbside Blue Box Recycling Program is operated on a regional basis by the CRD, the cost of this service is not billed directly by the Town. Rather, curbside recycling costs are included in the Regional District taxes on your property tax bill.

For more information about refuse collection charges, please visit the Refuse Collection Rates page.
