Community Wildfire Resiliency

Each community has its own unique risks related to wildfire. The Town of Sidney is developing a Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan for Sidney to guide the Town’s efforts to prevent and respond to potential wildfires.

The plan is being funded through the Union of BC Municipalities’ FireSmart Community Funding and Supports grant.  The Sidney Fire Department is leading this work in collaboration with Diamond Head Consultants, whose foresters are assessing local risks.

The Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan will support the Town’s FireSmart program, and provide opportunities to enhance wildfire prevention, preparedness and mitigation.

Sidney Fire Department staff have initiated FireSmart activities in anticipation of the completion of the plan. In addition to expanding the training program to offer courses like the Wildfire Mitigation Specialist certification for Fire Department members, two staff members are also actively involved in the Southern Vancouver Island Community FireSmart and Resiliency Committee.
