New Resident Information
Welcome to Sidney!
Here is some information you may find valuable as you settle into the community.
Make sure to obtain an annual license for all dogs over the age of six months. Your dog will be issued a tag to wear with a number on it that could help a lost pet be returned home safely. Dog owners may be subject to fines if a dog does not have a valid/current dog tag. Licenses must be renewed annually. Town Hall sends out renewal slips each January.
Call the CRD Animal Control at 250-478-0624 for animal complaints or problems.
Utilities include water, sewer and garbage. Meters are read quarterly and based on your level of consumption; current water rates and sewer changes can be found on the Town’s Water & Sewer Utilities page. Please note that there is a 5% penalty on late payments.
Please watch for watering restriction announcements in the summer, or contact CRD Water at 250-474-9684 for more information.
Every business in Sidney is required to have a valid business licence or inter-municipal business licence before beginning operations. This includes home-based, commercial, industrial and non-resident operations.
Visit the Apply for a Business Licence page for more information, and contact the Town at 250-656-1725 or developmentservices@sidney.ca if you have any questions.
Tax Notices are mailed out in May with payment due the first business day of July.
Additional information, including payment options and tax rates from previous years, can be found on the Property Taxes page.
