Sidney’s draft Active Transportation Plan ready for public review

Sidney, BC;

From February 1st to March 17th, the Town of Sidney is inviting members of the public to review a draft version of the Active Transportation Plan and share their feedback through an online survey or by writing activetransportation@sidney.ca.

The draft Active Transportation Plan is designed to serve as a roadmap to more people feeling supported and comfortable making active transportation, like walking, cycling, and travelling by motorized scooter, a part of their lifestyle. Driving will continue to be an important way of getting around town. The draft plan recognizes the importance of vehicles in Sidney and aims to create balanced streets with space for all transportation modes.

The draft plan reflects the input received from a community survey in spring 2022, as well as meetings with stakeholders, and a review of Sidney’s current infrastructure and policies; development and implementation of an Active Transportation Plan is a key deliverable identified in both the Town’s Official Community Plan and Climate Action Plan.

Public input will continue to be crucial to the development of an Active Transportation Plan that reflects the needs and priorities of Sidney’s community.

“Council is looking forward to hearing from community members and ensuring improvements to our sidewalks and cycling facilities meet the needs of our residents and businesses,” said Mayor Cliff McNeil-Smith. “Part of Sidney’s warm character comes from the many people who greet and look out for one another as they walk and use mobility devices to get around town. With further strategic improvements, more people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the benefits of active transportation.”
