Council gives support to new outdoor patio for brewery on Third Street

Following a public engagement process with largely positive feedback from nearby residents and businesses, Council is recommending that the Province’s Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch approve a Liquor Licence amendment for Beacon Brewery to create a small outdoor patio. The brewery is located on Third Street north of Beacon Avenue and would be the second patio of its kind on a newly redeveloped block. The application aligns with goals in the Official Community Plan to foster a strong downtown commercial core that supports a vibrant public life.

Council approves funding agreement for new track at Parkland Secondary School

Council has approved a funding agreement with School District #63 to not only replace the current track at Parkland Secondary School but also ensure there is funding available to replace the new track once it reaches the end of its useful life in approximately 15 years. The Town plans to make a one-time capital contribution of $83,000 toward the construction of the new track and provide ongoing annual contributions of $6,700 to support future track replacement. According to the agreement, these contributions would be matched by School District #63 and District of North Saanich with annual contributions adjusted to reflect inflation. Municipal funding will help ensure that the track will continue to be available for community use outside of Parkland Secondary school hours.
