Upgrades to West Highway Multi-Use Path

In recent years, the formerly narrow and bumpy West Side Bike Path has been widened out to 2.5 metres wide with lighting installed between Beacon Avenue West and Malaview Avenue West, creating a safer corridor for cyclists and pedestrians. This summer, the Town of Sidney will work toward completing this project by making improvements to the north end of the path between Malaview Avenue West and McDonald Park Road.

Following a competitive process, a contract for the work was awarded to C-1 Contractors Limited.

Rationale:

Pathway improvements were identified as a priority in the West Side Local Area Plan. The improved pathway supports active transportation for residents and employees who work in the West Side Industrial Area, as well as youth travelling to middle school and high school on McDonald Park Road. The pathway also connects to a growing commercial centre near the McDonald Park overpass.

Status Update:

August 2, 2024:  Work on the path is expected to begin in late-August and will involve path closures when necessary. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
